Court Orders Remand of ‘Justice Crack’ Over Alleged Cybercrime in Abuja

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned a social media personality known as “Justice Crack” before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations bordering on cybercrime and public disturbance.

The defendant, identified as Chidebere and popularly known online as “Justice Crack,” was brought before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on a three-count charge including alleged cybercrime, breach of public peace, and felony. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

According to the DSS, the case stems from a viral post allegedly made on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, in which he reportedly made claims about the state of equipment used by Nigerian military personnel.

During the hearing, counsel to the DSS, Mark Oruba, urged the court to remand the defendant in DSS custody, arguing that it was necessary in the interest of national security while investigations continue.

However, the defence counsel opposed the request, informing the court that they had already been served with the charges and intended to file a bail application for consideration.

After listening to both parties, Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the defendant should remain in DSS custody pending further proceedings.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter to May 25, 2026, for the commencement of trial and hearing of the bail application.

The case adds to a growing number of cyber-related prosecutions in Nigeria as authorities intensify enforcement of digital communication laws and online conduct regulations.
