Tinubu writes Senate, seeks confirmation of Tegbe as minister
President Bola Tinubu has nominated fiscal expert Joseph Tegbe as a federal minister. The request was sent to the Senate on Tuesday to fill the vacancy left by Adebayo Adelabu, who resigned to pursue a governorship bid in Oyo State.
President Bola Tinubu has officially requested the Senate to screen and confirm Joseph Tegbe as a new minister of the Federal Republic. The formal letter arrived at the National Assembly on Tuesday and was read aloud by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
In his message to the lawmakers, the President cited the Nigerian Constitution as the legal basis for this important ministerial nomination. The letter stated: “In compliance with the provisions of section 147 subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1991 as amended, I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Tinubu expressed his hope that the red chamber would provide an expeditious response to his request.
Joseph Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State, is a highly regarded expert in fiscal and economic reform. He brings over 35 years of professional experience from both the public and private sectors to this ministerial nomination. Previously, he served as a Senior Partner at KPMG Africa, where he managed significant projects involving institutional transformation and governance. The official record notes: “He has also advised key government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.”
This new appointment follows the recent resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down as the Minister of Power. Adelabu reportedly left the cabinet to focus on his ambition to become the governor of Oyo State. Senator Akpabio has already referred the ministerial nomination to the Committee of the Whole to ensure the screening process begins immediately. This transition is seen as a move to bring fresh economic expertise into the current administration.
Do you believe that Joseph Tegbe’s extensive background at KPMG will help him effectively manage the current economic challenges facing the nation?
