Police Record Major Security Breakthroughs Under IG Disu
The Nigeria Police Force announced major operational successes in April 2026, including arrests linked to terrorism, kidnapping, robbery, and murder. Police also rescued 189 kidnapped victims and recovered firearms, ammunition, and stolen vehicles during intelligence-led security operations nationwide.
The Nigeria Police Force says it achieved major security successes across the country in April 2026 through intelligence-led operations targeting violent crimes.
Under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, police tactical and investigative teams carried out several coordinated operations nationwide. According to the Force, the actions led to the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 85 suspected kidnappers, 62 armed robbery suspects, 51 murder and culpable homicide suspects, and 54 suspected cult members.
Force spokesman DCP Anthony Okon Placid confirmed that officers also rescued 189 kidnapped victims from different criminal hideouts and captivity locations across Nigeria. The operations formed part of ongoing efforts to improve national security and protect lives and property.
The Nigeria Police Force also recovered 140 assorted firearms, 1,074 rounds of ammunition, and 37 stolen vehicles connected to criminal activities. Officials described the results as evidence of stronger intelligence gathering and improved collaboration between security agencies.
Speaking on the achievements, Placid said: “The Inspector-General of Police commended officers and men involved in the operations for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to duty. He noted that the achievements reflect the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and enhanced inter-agency collaboration in addressing evolving security threats.”
He added that the Nigeria Police Force remains focused on dismantling criminal networks, improving public safety, and continuing reforms aimed at creating a more professional and accountable police institution.
Placid further stated: “The IGP further assured Nigerians that the Force remains resolute in its determination to dismantle criminal networks, strengthen public safety, and sustain ongoing reforms aimed at building a more accountable, professional, and people-centered Police Force.”
The police also encouraged citizens to support security agencies with reliable and timely information, stressing that national security requires collective effort.
