Aston Villa secured a place in the Europa League final after a commanding 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest completed a 4-1 aggregate triumph.

After losing the first leg 1-0, Villa responded strongly at a lively Villa Park on Wednesday night. Manager Unai Emery watched his side dominate from the opening stages as the team chased a first major trophy in 30 years.

The breakthrough arrived in the 36th minute when Ollie Watkins finished from close range following impressive skill from Emiliano Buendia. Villa continued to control the match and doubled the lead early in the second half after Buendia converted a penalty. The referee awarded the spot-kick after Nikola Milenkovic pulled the shirt of Pau Torres inside the penalty area.

Captain John McGinn then produced two late goals to seal the memorable win. The midfielder scored in the 77th and 80th minutes with almost identical finishes, sending the majority of the 43,000 supporters inside Villa Park into celebration. Among those watching was Prince William, a well-known Villa supporter.

The victory sends Aston Villa into the Europa League final, where the club will face German side Freiburg in Istanbul on 20 May. Freiburg reached the final after defeating Braga 3-1 and progressing 4-3 on aggregate.

Villa last won a major trophy in 1996 when the club lifted the League Cup. The team also famously won the European Cup in 1982. Now, Emery has the chance to guide Villa to European success once again. The Spanish coach has already won the Europa League four times and hopes to add another title with an English club for the first time.
