Agara Joins Nasarawa North Senate Race
Former Nasarawa State Deputy Governor Silas Agara has declared his bid for the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat under the APC. He promised to promote internal democracy and urged fair primaries as the political race intensifies in the state.
Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Silas Agara, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Agara, who recently resigned as Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), made his declaration during a meeting with the APC State Working Committee at the party secretariat in Lafia on Thursday.
His entry into the race adds to growing political interest in the senatorial zone, where incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule is also expected to contest for the same seat after completing his tenure next year.
Speaking after his declaration, Agara said his decision followed wide consultations with political allies and supporters across the senatorial district. He explained that the move was driven by what he described as a call from his constituents.
He said: “I have embarked on a journey I will call a Christian missionary journey to make my humble contribution to the growth and development of this state.”
Agara added that he stepped down from his federal appointment to return home and contribute more directly to the development of Nasarawa State politics. He stressed that the contest should be open and competitive.
“For me, Silas Agara, I am not competing with anyone for a stage. The stage is large enough for all of us to be able to show and to prove our worth,” he said.
He also urged the APC leadership to ensure fairness in the party’s primary elections and other internal processes, calling for transparency and equal opportunity for all aspirants.
In response, the APC Chairman in Nasarawa State, Dr Aliyu Bello, commended Agara’s decision, describing it as a bold step that reflects commitment to public service.
He assured all aspirants that the party would conduct free and fair primaries, saying internal democracy would be strictly upheld.
“The APC in Nasarawa State, under my leadership, will ensure that the rules of the party are followed to the letter. We will ensure that every aspirant is given a fair chance,” Bello said.
The development sets the stage for a keen political contest in Nasarawa North ahead of the next electoral cycle.
