Former Nigeria Revenue Service Executive Chairman Muhammad Nami has declared his candidacy for the Niger South Senatorial seat, Zone A, confirming earlier speculation.
At a Nami-Boku Ward event, Nami announced youth empowerment initiatives, including university scholarships and a 10-year commitment to purchasing JAMB forms for prospective students. The announcement was witnessed by supporters, party leaders, and officials.
Nami noted that after a months-long training program, he returned better prepared with the knowledge and leadership skills to serve his people and humanity.
According to him, “I am here to offer myself for service to my people and humanity.I am here to get elected as your Senator to serve you diligently as I did as the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (Now NRS) and continue to invest in humanity for greater prosperity”.
Nami emphasised that his Senate candidacy is driven by a desire to serve the people, foster growth and development in the zone and the state, and not to exploit resources or abandon his constituents after the election.
” I want to continue the philanthropic work I have been doing over the past 33 years in my business undertakings and public life through Niger South Foundation,” he said.
While announcing his scholarship, he said, whether elected or not, “I will sponsor all pupils in the primary section of the Police Secondary School for the next ten (10) years, sponsor fifty (50) students to the secondary section of the Police Secondary School Nami annually for the next ten (10) years.
The sponsorship will cover school fees and WAEC/NECO exam fees for 50 students. Additionally, three qualified candidates will be sponsored annually to study Accountancy, ICT, or Medicine at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai. This contribution is a sacrifice for the community’s progress, not a campaign promise.
He further listed the projects he undertook through his Foundation for various communities in Nami-Boku Ward, especially in Nami, where he cited “world-class rural hospital, one of Nigeria’s best Police Secondary Schools, the best Police Station for our community/nearby villages, and facilitating the Construction of an ICT Centre by the NITDA in Nami PSS, amongst others.
Some of the projects included the provision of Power transformers to twelve rural communities in the Ward, including the Police Secondary School, Nami.
The Nami-Boku Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Party (APC), Muhammed Umar Takuti, expressed gratitude to Muhammad Nami for the selfless service he rendered to his community and promised to mobilise support for his candidature, stressing that it would be a thing of pride to the people of Nami-Boku Ward and Agaie Local Government to have their son elected into the red chamber.
