AGF Advises IGP to Engage Oyedele for Outstanding Police Fund
The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to engage with Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, to facilitate the release of outstanding Police funds.
Ogunjimi, who spoke during Disu’s visit to his office, noted that inadequate funding could hinder critical security operations.
The AGF said the federal government is ready and committed to ensuring the prompt release of approved funds to the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen its operations and tackle insecurity nationwide.
The AGF emphasised the enormous role of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the nation’s security challenges, and such requires adequate support to enable the Force to discharge its responsibilities effectively and professionally.
He also assured the IGP that the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for June and August 2026 would require substantial support from the Federal Government to ensure seamless police operations during the electoral process.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had appealed to the AGF for the prompt release of the outstanding funds to enable the Police discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
Disu, who led a delegation of the Nigeria Police to the AGF, highlighted the importance of adequate funding for the forthcoming off-season elections in June and August 2026, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would play a critical role in ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
