Michael Carrick is expected to become the next permanent manager of Manchester United after guiding the club through an impressive turnaround this season. Reports on Wednesday claimed senior club officials now strongly support the former midfielder’s appointment following a successful spell in temporary charge.

Carrick stepped in during January after the difficult and controversial end of Ruben Amorim’s time at Old Trafford. Since taking charge on January 13, the 44-year-old has transformed United’s form and helped the team secure Champions League qualification with three matches still remaining.

Under Michael Carrick, Manchester United climbed from seventh to third place in the Premier League standings. The team has won 10 of 15 matches across all competitions and suffered only two defeats during his time on the touchline.

According to reports, chief executive Omar Berrada and football director Jason Wilcox plan to recommend Carrick’s appointment to co-owner Jim Ratcliffe during an executive meeting later this week. Although the club explored several managerial options, Carrick reportedly remained the leading candidate throughout the process.
