NGX Market Cap Climbs to ₦162tn in Renewed Buying Interest
The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed Wednesday’s trading session on a positive note as renewed buying interest across major equities lifted market capitalisation to ₦162.1 trillion, equivalent to approximately $118 billion.
At the close of trading, investors exchanged a total of 1.57 billion shares valued at ₦91.66 billion in 76,431 deals, representing a 26 per cent increase in trading volume and a 32 per cent rise in turnover compared with Tuesday’s session. However, the number of deals declined by 5 per cent.
Market breadth remained positive as 39 stocks advanced against 29 decliners out of the 133 equities that participated in trading.
Berger Paints Nigeria Plc led the gainers’ chart after its share price appreciated by 17.29 per cent, rising from ₦119.45 to ₦140.10 per share. Other top-performing stocks included Fidson Healthcare Plc, which advanced from ₦41.00 to ₦45.10; Computer Warehouse Group Plc, which gained from ₦11.00 to ₦12.10; and Livestock Feeds Plc, which appreciated from ₦9.90 to ₦10.89, with all three stocks posting the maximum daily gain of 10 per cent.
On the losers’ table, NCR Nigeria Plc recorded the steepest decline after its share price dropped by 10 per cent from ₦199.00 to ₦179.10 per share. It was followed by Cornerstone Insurance Plc, which fell from ₦4.00 to ₦3.60; Zichis Agro Allied Industries Ltd, which declined from ₦5.46 to ₦4.92; and Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc, which shed 9.66 per cent to close at ₦3.18 from ₦3.52 per share.
Trading activity remained dominated by banking and financial services equities. First HoldCo Plc recorded the highest traded volume with 564 million shares exchanged, followed by Access Holdings Plc with 105 million shares, Fidelity Bank Plc with 96 million shares, and Wema Bank Plc with 70 million shares traded.
Among the most actively traded banking stocks were United Bank for Africa Plc with 96.15 million shares, Access Holdings Plc with 104.43 million shares, Zenith Bank Plc with 52.34 million shares, and First HoldCo Plc with 22.36 million shares traded.
