The All-Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has disqualified Wole Oke, the House of Representatives member for Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State, from its primary election, bringing an end to his 24-year tenure in the Green Chamber.
Political analysts view this as a major setback for Oke, who recently switched to the APC after leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
While the specifics of his disqualification before the committee remained unclear, APC sources explained that the decision was linked to the zoning arrangement in the constituency.
A copy of the disqualification memo, attached to the report, was leaked to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, revealing that some APC chieftains in the capital argued the ticket should go to the Oriade Local Government Area rather than Obokun, Oke’s hometown, in the interest of political expediency and fairness.
According to a source, after his disqualification, there was celebration among the rank and file of the Osun State APC, who felt that his time had finally come to an end.
However, despite strong opposition from the APC National Headquarters via the Screening Committee, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, went ahead to endorse him, sparking widespread protest.
According to APC insiders, handing the ticket to Wole Oke could be a major setback for the party in the 2027 election, prompting calls for President Bola Tinubu to urge Gboyega Oyetola to reconsider in the interest of peace ahead of the 2027 polls.
Oke was recently appointed as the Director-General of the APC campaign team for the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, where Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, along with other contenders, will face off against Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who is aiming for re-election.
