Political parties and candidates seeking elective offices in Anambra State will now require permits before carrying out campaign activities.

The Anambra State Government has announced mandatory campaign permit fees for political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. The new directive was disclosed in Awka by Engr. Chika Ngobili, Assistant General Manager of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA).

Under the new policy, presidential candidates must pay ₦50 million for a campaign permit. Senatorial candidates will be required to pay ₦20 million, while candidates contesting for the House of Representatives will pay ₦5 million. Those seeking seats in the State House of Assembly will pay ₦1.5 million.

The fee structure also extends to local elections. Candidates contesting for local government chairmanship positions will pay ₦2.5 million, while councillorship candidates will be charged ₦100,000.

According to Ngobili, the campaign permit fees cover a wide range of election materials and activities. These include political rallies, posters, banners, branded vehicles, public address systems, flyers, campaign booths, T-shirts, caps, and other outdoor promotional materials used during election campaigns.

He stated, “We hereby formally notify all political parties and candidates participating in the 2027 general elections in Anambra State of the mandatory requirement to obtain campaign permits from ANSAA before commencing campaign activities.”

Ngobili explained that the policy aims to promote orderliness during the election season, protect public infrastructure, reduce visual pollution, and ensure equal access to advertising spaces for all contestants. He also warned political actors against destroying or defacing opponents’ campaign materials, describing such actions as unlawful.

Emphasising the need for peaceful participation, he added that the electioneering process “should not be seen as a do-or-d+e affair.” The campaign permit fees policy is expected to play a key role in regulating political advertising ahead of the 2027 general elections, while ensuring compliance with established guidelines on campaign permit fees.
