Jose Mourinho Set For Madrid Comeback
Florentino Perez has pledged to bring Jose Mourinho back if he wins Real Madrid's presidential election.
Jose Mourinho could return to Real Madrid if Florentino Perez wins the club’s presidential election, adding a major twist to the campaign.
Jose Mourinho is in line for a second spell at Real Madrid after club president Florentino Perez confirmed the Portuguese coach would return if he secures victory in Sunday’s election. The announcement formed a key part of Perez’s campaign as he seeks another term at the helm of the Spanish giants.
Perez revealed the news through a social media video featuring Mourinho, who responded with a brief but clear message: “Yes!” The clip was accompanied by the slogan “So MOUch history to be made”, a reference to Mourinho’s successful previous stint in Madrid.
The move comes after a frustrating season for Real Madrid, who failed to win major domestic honours and suffered another quarter-final exit in the Champions League. Barcelona’s success in retaining the La Liga title increased pressure on the club, leading Perez to call the first contested presidential election in two decades.
During his first spell in charge, Jose Mourinho helped Real Madrid win the league with a record points tally in 2012. However, his last league title came with Chelsea in 2015.
Perez faces competition from businessman Enrique Riquelme, who has promised significant changes if elected. Riquelme said he would attempt to sign Rodri and Erling Haaland, while former Real Madrid captain Raul would become sporting director.
Since leaving Chelsea, Mourinho has added the Europa League and League Cup with Manchester United to his trophy collection and later guided AS Roma to the Conference League title. His managerial career has also included spells with Tottenham Hotspur, Fenerbahce and Benfica.
Despite debate over whether modern football has moved beyond Mourinho’s methods, Perez appears convinced that Jose Mourinho can provide the leadership and winning mentality needed to get the best from stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham.
Would Jose Mourinho be the right man to lead Real Madrid back to the top of European football?
