Nyesom Wike will address graduating students at the University of Port Harcourt, focusing on leadership and infrastructure development in Nigeria.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been confirmed as the guest lecturer for the 36th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike will deliver a lecture titled “Leadership and Infrastructure Development in Nigeria: Lessons for Future Leaders.” The event will take place at the New Convocation Arena of the university in Choba, Rivers State, beginning at 10 a.m.
The invitation was extended by UNIPORT Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari A. Georgewill, in a letter dated April 20, 2026. He described the convocation lecture as an important platform for engaging graduating students and the wider academic community on issues that shape national development, leadership and the future of society.
In the letter, the Vice-Chancellor praised Nyesom Wike for his record in public service, governance and infrastructure development, noting that his experience would provide valuable insights for students preparing to enter the next phase of their lives.
Professor Georgewill also stated that Wike’s participation would strengthen the connection between leadership, education and national progress while serving as a source of inspiration for graduates.
The FCT Minister later accepted the invitation through a letter signed by his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi, on April 23, 2026.
According to the response, the topic was selected because of Wike’s belief that effective leadership should produce measurable results through the provision of critical infrastructure, public services and amenities that improve the lives of citizens.
The UNIPORT Convocation Lecture is expected to be one of the major highlights of the university’s 36th convocation activities, attracting students, academics, public officials and other stakeholders.
