NNPC Foundation Donates Advanced MRI System

NNPC Foundation has commissioned and handed over a modern MRI machine to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Kano, boosting specialised healthcare services.

The NNPC Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of NNPC Ltd., has donated a fully installed 1.5 Tesla MRI system to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, in Kano State. The new equipment is expected to improve access to advanced medical diagnosis and support the treatment of a wide range of conditions, including orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal and gynaecological cases.

According to a statement issued by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., the intervention reflects the organisation’s commitment to improving healthcare access and strengthening medical infrastructure across Nigeria. Before the installation of the MRI system donation, many patients reportedly faced long journeys, extended waiting periods and high costs when seeking advanced diagnostic services.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Kano, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., represented by Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, said the project forms part of the company’s broader strategy to support national healthcare development through sustainable social investments.

“At NNPC Limited, we are intentional about ensuring that our social investments are impactful, sustainable, and beneficial to the communities we serve. Through the NNPC Foundation, we will continue to implement interventions that create measurable social value across Nigeria,” he said.

Arukwe described the MRI system donation as both timely and necessary, particularly at a time when healthcare facilities face infrastructure challenges, equipment shortages and growing demand for specialised services.

Representing NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President of Business Services, Rose Okonkwo said the company remains committed to improving lives beyond the energy sector. She noted that the MRI system donation demonstrates NNPC’s dedication to delivering sustainable benefits to communities and supporting vulnerable populations across the country.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by Health Commissioner Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, praised the initiative and described it as a significant step towards improving healthcare services through faster and more accurate diagnosis. The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Isa Nurudeen, also expressed gratitude, stating that the equipment would greatly enhance the hospital’s capacity and service delivery.
