Lamine Yamal has claimed the LaLiga Player of the Season award after starring in Barcelona’s successful title-winning campaign.
The teenage sensation played a vital role as Barcelona retained the Spanish league crown with a series of outstanding performances throughout the season. The LaLiga Player of the Season became the first footballer to win the division’s Player of the Month award three times in a single campaign, underlining his consistency and influence.
Yamal ended the league season as Barcelona’s top scorer, recording 16 goals and 11 assists. His creativity also set him apart from every other player in the competition. Highlighting his impact, Barcelona said: “He is the proverbial headache for opponent defences, who have to make a real effort to try to stop the blaugrana’s attacking threats.
“Beyond the intangibles, the young Catalan scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists, with no other LaLiga player providing that many passes leading to goals.”
The award adds to an impressive week for Barcelona after Hansi Flick received the league’s Coach of the Year honour. Together, the recognitions reflect the club’s dominance in Spanish football this season.
Despite his success, Yamal faced several fitness challenges during the campaign. The winger spent periods on the sidelines because of groin problems and missed Barcelona’s final six matches with a hamstring injury. Even so, expectations remain high that he will be fit enough to represent Spain at the FIFA World Cup 2026, which begins next week across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Still only 18, Yamal has already established himself among football’s brightest talents. Since breaking into the spotlight at 16, he has become a key figure for club and country, helping Spain secure a record fourth European Championship title in 2024. The LaLiga Player of the Season award marks another major milestone in his rapidly growing career.
