Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have successfully rescued Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons after their abduction in Ibadan.

The police rescue operation took place at about 7:30 pm on Saturday, 6 June 2026, following intelligence-led efforts by security personnel. A video that surfaced online captured the moment officers stormed the apartment where the victims were reportedly being held captive.

The footage was shared on X by Lere Olayinka, media aide to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The dramatic operation ended with the safe recovery of Mrs John-Paul and her sons, Peter and Paul.

Mrs John-Paul is the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. According to a police source who spoke with Channels Television, the police rescue operation followed extensive intelligence gathering and sustained pressure on the kidnappers.

The source revealed that officers encountered resistance from the suspects, leading to a gun battle during the operation. Two suspected kidnappers were reportedly killed in the exchange, while security operatives recovered two firearms from the scene.

Authorities said the confrontation occurred after investigators tracked the activities of the criminal group and intensified efforts to locate the victims. The successful police rescue operation ensured that all three abductees were recovered alive.

Security personnel have continued to search surrounding areas for other members of the kidnapping gang who escaped during the raid. Investigators believe some of the fleeing suspects may have suffered gunshot injuries while attempting to evade capture.

The incident highlights the growing role of intelligence-driven operations in tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes. Officials also indicated that efforts remain ongoing to dismantle the wider criminal network linked to the abduction.

The police rescue operation has been widely welcomed as another significant breakthrough in the fight against organised kidnapping in Nigeria.
