Nigerian: London Police Hunt Escaped Prisoner

Police have launched an urgent search after a prisoner escaped from a transport van in south-east London on Monday evening.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police are working to locate Temitope Segun, 25, who escaped from a prison transport vehicle on Woolwich High Street at about 6:40 p.m. on Monday. The incident triggered a major police response as authorities intensified efforts to track down the escaped inmate.

Images and videos shared on social media appear to show the aftermath of the escape. The footage captures several police vehicles with flashing lights surrounding a prison van near the former Waterfront Leisure Centre, which has since closed.

According to investigators, Segun has known connections to the south London communities of Woolwich, Plumstead, and Abbey Wood. Police have also released a photograph of him to support the ongoing London prisoner escape investigation and encourage members of the public to assist with information.

Leading the operation, Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning said officers continue to work around the clock to locate the fugitive. She stressed the importance of public cooperation as the search enters a critical stage.

“My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun. It is imperative that the public contact police via 999 if they see him, or know where he may be,” she said.

Authorities said Segun was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers and black trainers. Police have warned residents not to approach him under any circumstances. Instead, anyone who sees him or has information about his whereabouts should immediately call 999 and quote reference number 2270/10JUN.
