Zichis Agro-Allied Engages NIFOR To Boost Production Capacity
Zichis Agro partners with NIFOR to boost palm oil production through improved seedlings and modern farming practices.
Zichis Agro Allied Industries Plc has moved to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s palm oil industry through a strategic engagement with the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), as the company advances plans to develop its 2,000-acre palm estate in Ogun State.
The company’s Board and Management recently visited NIFOR in Benin City, Edo State, to explore collaboration opportunities focused on the acquisition of high-yield oil palm seedlings and the adoption of modern cultivation techniques aimed at maximizing productivity and long-term output.
The partnership is expected to support Zichis Agro’s efforts to scale production capacity and enhance operational efficiency across its palm cultivation business.
NIFOR, established in 1939, is widely regarded as a leading centre for oil palm research and is recognized for developing high-yielding Tenera oil palm varieties as well as sustainable production practices.
According to the company, leveraging NIFOR’s expertise in seedling development, genetic improvement and plantation management will provide a strong foundation for the successful execution of its large-scale palm estate project.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to global best practices and sustainable agricultural development,” a company spokesperson said. “By leveraging NIFOR’s world-class expertise in genetic improvement, seedling production and modern cultivation techniques, we are laying a solid foundation for the success of our 2,000-acre palm estate.”
Land-clearing activities have already commenced across the Ogbere and Ajebo axes of Ogun State, marking the first phase of the company’s structured cultivation programme and demonstrating progress toward the commercial development of the plantation.
The engagement with NIFOR forms part of Zichis Agro’s broader expansion strategy, which recently received a major boost following a ₦2 billion non-equity strategic capital injection from its core promoters, Chilla Entertainment Limited and Winners Investment & Trust Limited.
The company said the funding will accelerate development initiatives across its agribusiness portfolio, particularly the expansion of the palm estate, which is expected to increase its agricultural asset base and strengthen future revenue generation.
Nigeria’s palm oil industry continues to offer significant growth opportunities amid rising domestic demand, population growth and ongoing government efforts to reduce dependence on imports. Industry experts have consistently highlighted the need for increased local production to address supply deficits and support economic diversification.
With operations spanning feed production, poultry farming, palm cultivation and agro-processing, Zichis Agro said it remains committed to adopting high-yield and sustainable farming practices, improving operational efficiency and delivering long-term value to shareholders and other stakeholders.
