Tottenham Sign Marcos Senesi From Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur have strengthened their defence with the signing of Argentine centre-back Marcos Senesi ahead of the new season.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the arrival of Marcos Senesi on Wednesday, with the defender set to officially join the club from 1 July after leaving Bournemouth at the end of his contract. The Argentina international spent four seasons on the south coast, making 128 appearances in all competitions before deciding to move on.

The transfer comes as Tottenham look to rebuild after a difficult campaign in which they narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League, finishing 17th in the table. Senesi becomes the club’s second signing under manager Roberto De Zerbi, following the earlier arrival of Andy Robertson, as Spurs aim to strengthen their defensive options.

Speaking after the move was announced, Senesi said he was motivated by the club’s ambition and long-term project.

“From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in,” he said.

He added that his goal is to help restore the club’s status and achieve success in north London.

“Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.”

During his time at Bournemouth, Senesi played a key role in defence, contributing to a 16-match unbeaten run and helping the team secure 11 clean sheets in a strong run of form.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi praised the signing, highlighting Senesi’s technical ability and tactical intelligence. He said the defender’s experience, composure on the ball and adaptability would add balance to the squad.

“Marcos’s experience, quality on the ball and competitive edge will strengthen us defensively, as well as giving us flexibility in formation,” De Zerbi said.

“He’s comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.”

Tottenham’s struggles last season saw them finish just two points above the relegation zone, prompting a push to reinforce key areas ahead of the new campaign.
