MTN Pushes Data Transparency Initiative
MTN Nigeria launches Data on Trial to improve customer understanding of data usage and billing practices.
MTN Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and consumer education as it seeks to strengthen customer trust and improve understanding of digital data usage.
Speaking during the company’s public engagement programme, Data on Trial, Karl Toriola, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, said the initiative was designed to address common concerns about mobile data usage, billing transparency and digital consumption habits. He noted that data has become an essential part of everyday life, making it important for customers to understand how it is used and charged.
Toriola explained that the Data on Trial platform was built on the principle that trust grows when customers have access to clear information and can make informed decisions based on facts. As a company listed on the Nigerian Exchange, he added, MTN remains committed to openness in both its operations and financial reporting.
“Data on Trial was created based on a simple belief. Trust, with our customer, grows when they are given access to the information and they are allowed to make up their mind about it. Today’s event is an opportunity for everyone to understand the facts, understand the technology behind what delivers technology in real time, and to ask the most difficult questions and hear different perspectives”.
During the session, MTN specialists addressed a range of issues frequently raised by customers regarding data transparency. These included concerns about data depletion, billing accuracy, background app activity, automatic software updates, cloud synchronisation, video streaming and the impact of connecting multiple devices to a single data plan.
The company said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to improve digital literacy, enhance customer confidence and provide greater clarity around how mobile data is consumed. Through Data on Trial, MTN aims to encourage informed discussions and help users better manage their digital experiences.
