The protest took place at Unity Fountain, where activists and civil society groups gathered to voice concerns about insecurity, economic hardship and what they described as poor governance. Witnesses claimed that tensions rose when security personnel moved to disperse the gathering.
According to reports from the scene, police operatives deployed tear gas in an effort to break up the protest. The action triggered confusion as participants rushed to escape the affected area. During the disturbance, Sowore was reportedly exposed to the tear gas and later lost consciousness.

Eyewitnesses said supporters and fellow activists quickly came to his assistance and removed him from the protest venue. Sources close to the activist stated that he regained consciousness while being transported away from the scene.
Following the incident, Sowore was reportedly taken to an undisclosed medical facility for further assessment and treatment. No official update on his condition had been provided at the time of reporting.
