Victoria Mboko Injury Ends Wimbledon Dream

Victoria Mboko will miss Wimbledon injury setback after suffering a knee injury during this week’s HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club.

The rising Canadian star sustained the injury during her match against Karolina Pliskova, bringing an abrupt end to a promising grass-court campaign. The 19-year-old slipped behind the baseline while attempting to return a shot in the second set and immediately grabbed her left knee. Medical staff attended to her on court, but she was unable to continue and retired from the match.

Following further assessment, Mboko revealed that she had injured the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her left knee. The injury has ruled her out for the rest of the grass-court season, including Wimbledon, a tournament she had eagerly anticipated.

“Unfortunately, my fall on Wednesday caused an injury to the MCL on my left knee, which sadly means I will miss the remainder of the grass season. This unfortunately means Wimbledon too, a tournament I had been so looking forward to playing this year,” she wrote on Instagram.

The Wimbledon injury setback comes at a time when Mboko was attracting significant attention on the international stage. Earlier in the week, she partnered with Serena Williams in the doubles competition at Queen’s Club. The pair won their opening match on Tuesday, which also marked Williams’ first professional appearance since the 2022 U.S. Open.

During treatment after the fall, Mboko reportedly told a physiotherapist that there was “no stability” in her left knee, raising immediate concerns about the severity of the injury.

The setback is a disappointing blow for the talented teenager, who had been building momentum ahead of the summer’s biggest tournaments. Despite the disappointment, many within the tennis community remain optimistic that Mboko will recover fully and continue her impressive rise when she returns to competition.
