Kano Governor Suspends KNUPDA Managing Director
Kano State suspended the KNUPDA managing director as authorities launch an investigation into alleged planning violations.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has suspended the Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), Arc. Hauwa Hassan Tudun-wada, over alleged irregularities linked to town planning and physical development activities across the state.
The move forms part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen oversight within the urban planning sector and address concerns surrounding reported violations in the Kano metropolis. The development was disclosed by the governor’s media aide, Hon. Nanu Kankarofi, who said the administration remains committed to improving compliance with planning regulations.
Alongside the suspension, the government has established a high-level investigative panel through the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim. The committee has been tasked with reviewing the operations of KNUPDA and examining issues related to illegal developments and land-use violations within the state.
The investigation will be led by Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, Director-General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS) and head of the Kano State Special Task Force on Illegal Structures. The committee is expected to assess compliance procedures and determine whether any breaches occurred within the agency’s operations.
In a separate statement, Musa Tanko Muhammad, Press Secretary to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, confirmed the decision and explained that the action was necessary to support a transparent and credible investigation. According to the statement, the government wants the inquiry to proceed without interference while relevant issues are thoroughly examined.
The statement also revealed that the governor directed both the subject of the KNUPDA suspension, Arc. Hauwa Hassan Tudun-wada, and the Authority’s Director of Architecture to temporarily step aside while the investigation continues. Officials said the measure is intended to promote accountability and ensure a fair review process.
