NGX Capitalisation Rises to ₦156.97trn as Equities Gain 0.88
The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed the week on a positive note, with investors recording gains across key market indicators despite a shortened trading week occasioned by the Democracy Day holiday.
The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 0.88 per cent to close at 244,738.74 points, while market capitalisation increased to ₦156.970 trillion.
Trading activities were conducted over four sessions following the Federal Government’s declaration of Friday, June 12, 2026, as a public holiday in commemoration of Democracy Day.
Market turnover improved significantly during the week as investors exchanged 4.964 billion shares valued at ₦207.521 billion in 235,966 deals. This represents an increase from the 3.966 billion shares worth ₦175.659 billion traded in 343,587 deals recorded in the previous week.
The Financial Services Industry maintained its dominance of market activity, accounting for 4.116 billion shares valued at ₦84.607 billion, representing 82.92 per cent and 40.77 per cent of total volume and value traded, respectively.
The Services Industry and Industrial Goods Industry followed as the second and third most active sectors during the review period.
Sterling Financial Holdings Plc, FCMB Group Plc and Access Holdings Plc emerged as the most traded stocks by volume, jointly accounting for 2.883 billion shares valued at ₦36.188 billion.
Daily market statistics showed sustained investor participation throughout the week. On June 8, investors traded 746.09 million shares worth ₦58.05 billion in 75,219 deals. Trading volume rose to 1.270 billion shares valued at ₦57.87 billion on June 9, while 1.226 billion shares worth ₦38.81 billion exchanged hands on June 10. Activity peaked on June 11 with 1.721 billion shares valued at ₦52.79 billion traded in 49,739 deals.
Sectoral performance was largely positive, although some indices closed lower. The NGX Sovereign Bond Index recorded the biggest decline, shedding 2.04 per cent, followed by the NGX Industrial Goods Index, which fell 1.61 per cent. The NGX Commodity Index also slipped by 0.34 per cent.
Market breadth remained negative as 40 equities appreciated, while 53 declined and 53 closed unchanged.
Among the top gainers, Associated Bus Company Plc led with a 25.60 per cent appreciation, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Holdings Plc, which gained 23.13 per cent. Abbey Mortgage Bank Plc rose by 21.93 per cent, while Infinity Trust Mortgage Bank Plc and Austin Laz & Company Plc advanced by 20.32 per cent and 15.16 per cent, respectively.
On the losers’ chart, Fidson Healthcare Plc recorded the steepest decline of 25.86 per cent. Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc fell by 19.34 per cent, while UH Real Estate Investment Trust lost 17.36 per cent during the week.
