NDC Names Kwankwaso’s Son Running Mate

The Kano deputy governorship candidate for the National Democratic Coalition has been unveiled ahead of the 2027 election.

Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the eldest son of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who serves as the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), has been selected as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State.

The announcement means Mustapha will contest alongside Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the NDC’s governorship candidate, in the race for Kano Government House. The decision was confirmed on Monday by Habibu Saleh Mohammed, spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State.

In a brief statement announcing the development, Mohammed wrote: “His Excellency Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo unveiled Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate for the 2027 Governorship Election.”

The nomination places Mustapha Kwankwaso in a prominent position within the party’s plans for the 2027 polls. Supporters of the NDC believe the Kano deputy governorship candidate will bring valuable experience from his previous role in state government and strengthen the party’s campaign across the state.

Before emerging as the Kano deputy governorship candidate, Mustapha served as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Kano State under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He held the position until he resigned following the governor’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His selection marks another significant political development in Kano as parties continue to prepare for the 2027 elections. The NDC is expected to rely on the combined experience of Gwarzo and Mustapha Kwankwaso as it seeks to expand its support base and present its agenda to voters across the state.
