Aliko Dangote has announced plans for a landmark industrial development in Ondo State, aimed at boosting manufacturing and economic growth.

President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has revealed plans to develop what he described as Nigeria’s largest industrial and free trade zone in Ondo State, with construction scheduled to begin in the final quarter of 2026. The proposed Olokola Industrial Zone forms part of a multi-billion-dollar investment programme covering power generation, gas infrastructure, cement production and industrial manufacturing.

During a visit to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Akure, Dangote explained that the Olokola Industrial Zone would operate as a fully serviced investment hub. The development will include its own electricity supply, water systems and other essential infrastructure designed to attract both local and international manufacturers.

Speaking on the project, Dangote said, “We want to create the biggest free trade zone where investors can simply come and plug in. We will generate power, provide infrastructure and remove the bottlenecks around doing business.”

He stressed that unreliable electricity remains a major barrier to industrial expansion in Nigeria, as many businesses still depend on self-generated power, which raises operating costs. To address this challenge, the Olokola Industrial Zone will feature dedicated energy facilities and an east-west gas corridor to support continuous industrial operations.

Dangote also reflected on earlier efforts to develop projects in Olokola, noting that operational difficulties had previously redirected major investments to Lagos. However, he expressed confidence that stronger cooperation with the state government would ensure the success of the Olokola Industrial Zone.

Contractors are expected to begin site activities within the next three to four months. Dangote also requested a state government representative to join the project’s board to improve coordination. He added that the development would create thousands of jobs, expand industrial activity and increase export earnings.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa welcomed the investment, describing it as a major step forward for the state’s industrialisation plans. He highlighted the state’s strategic position along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway corridor, its deep-sea port licence and rich limestone deposits as key advantages. The governor also confirmed that a technical committee is already working with Dangote Group to support the project’s successful delivery.

How significant do you think the Olokola Industrial Zone could be for Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and job creation?
