Police Appoints New Force Spokesperson

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a fresh change in its public communications team, appointing Iniedu Okokon as the new Force Public Relations Officer.

The appointment of Iniedu Okokon marks another leadership adjustment within the Nigeria Police Force, as the organisation continues to strengthen its public communication structure. Mr Okokon, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), takes over from Anthony Placid, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), who held the position for only three months.

Mr Placid assumed the role shortly after Olatunji Disu became the 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP). He confirmed his replacement in a brief text message when contacted by reporters. However, the police have not yet explained the reasons behind the latest reshuffle.

According to sources at the police headquarters, Mr Placid has moved to head the Lagos Command Finance and Administration Unit. The role became available following the death of Khan Salihu, a DCP, after a short illness.

As the new Force Public Relations Officer, Iniedu Okokon will immediately take charge of the police’s public communication activities. Meanwhile, the recently established Force New Media unit will continue to operate under the supervision of Aliyu Giwa, also a CSP.

Before this appointment, Iniedu Okokon led the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), where he handled public complaints and engagement matters. A senior police officer confirmed his previous position to reporters.

The Force Public Relations Officer role remains a key part of the police structure, helping to maintain communication between the force and the public. Further details regarding the changes are expected from police authorities in the coming days.
