Vinicius Inspires Brazil to Top Group C

Vinicius Junior starred for Brazil with two goals as the South American giants secured a convincing victory to finish top of their group.

Brazil sealed first place in FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C with an impressive 3-0 win over Scotland on Wednesday, thanks largely to a brilliant performance from Vinicius Junior.

The Real Madrid forward wasted little time making an impact, capitalising on a defensive error by Scott McKenna to open the scoring in the seventh minute. Vinicius looked set to double Brazil’s advantage midway through the first half after winning possession from Jack Hendry and finding the net. However, a VAR review ruled that he had fouled the defender during the build-up, and the goal was disallowed.

The setback did not slow the Brazilian winger. In first-half stoppage time, Vinicius Junior rose highest to meet a cross from Bruno Guimaraes, heading home his second goal of the match and giving Brazil firm control of the contest.

Brazil continued to dominate after the break and added a third goal through Matheus Cunha. The striker finished confidently after being set up by Guimaraes, taking his tally to three goals in the tournament so far.

The victory ensured that Brazil World Cup campaign remains on track, with the Selecao finishing at the top of the Group C standings. Their attacking display highlighted the quality and depth within the squad as they prepare for the knockout stages.

With group duties completed, Brazil will now turn their attention to the Round of 32, where they are scheduled to face the second-placed team from Group K in Houston on 29 June.

The performance of Vinicius Junior once again underlined his importance to Brazil’s hopes of lifting the World Cup trophy.
