Naomi Osaka delivers a strong performance in Germany to reach the semi-finals ahead of Wimbledon.
Naomi Osaka has secured a place in the semi-finals of the Bad Homburg Open after a convincing victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova on Thursday. The four-time Grand Slam champion produced a dominant display, defeating the Russian player 6-2, 6-2 in just 59 minutes.
The Japanese sixth seed showed impressive form on the grass court ahead of Wimbledon, which begins in the coming days. Osaka, currently ranked world number 15, faced early pressure after losing her serve at the start of the opening set.
However, she quickly recovered and took control of the match. The tennis star won eight consecutive games, including a run of 15 straight points, allowing her to claim the first set and build a 3-0 advantage in the second.
Alexandrova, ranked 19th in the world, attempted a comeback by winning her next two service games. Despite the challenge, Naomi Osaka remained composed and closed out the match in under an hour.
The victory highlights Osaka’s growing confidence on grass courts as she prepares for one of tennis’ biggest events. Her performance at the Bad Homburg Open has provided a positive boost before the start of the Wimbledon tournament.
Other quarter-final matches on Thursday will see fourth seed Karolina Muchova face Danish player Clara Tauson, while American Emma Navarro takes on Romania’s Elena-Gabriel Ruse.
Meanwhile, China’s world number 52 Wang Xinyu has already advanced to the semi-finals after eighth-ranked Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina withdrew from the tournament on Wednesday, citing exhaustion.
With Wimbledon approaching, Naomi Osaka will look to continue building momentum and challenge for another major title.
