Uba Sani: Kaduna Gives Released Inmates ₦100,000 Reintegration Support

The Kaduna State Government has fulfilled its promise by giving financial support to 97 former inmates released under Governor Uba Sani clemency programme.

The beneficiaries, who regained their freedom through Governor Uba Sani’s constitutional prerogative of mercy on Democracy Day, each received ₦100,000 during a presentation ceremony at the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre. The financial assistance is intended to help them rebuild their lives and successfully return to society.

Speaking at the event, the Officer in Charge of the custodial centre, Assistant Controller Dalhat Ibrahim, described the initiative as an important step towards successful rehabilitation. He said the governor’s support went beyond paying the inmates’ fines, adding that the cash assistance would give them a fresh start and encourage positive contributions to society.

“By paying the fines of the inmates and giving them financial assistance, this will encourage them to do what they are supposed to do. They are now set to be reintegrated into society,” he said.

Ibrahim advised the beneficiaries to use the money as capital for small businesses or other lawful ventures while maintaining good behaviour after their release.

The Kaduna inmate support programme was also described as the final stage of implementing the governor’s clemency. Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, said he led the government delegation to present the funds in fulfilment of the governor’s commitment made on June 12.

He encouraged the former inmates to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could return them to custody.

One of the beneficiaries, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State, thanked the governor for offering them another opportunity to rebuild their lives.

“We thank the governor for giving us this opportunity to regain our freedom. We also appreciate the financial support because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God continues to bless him,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Abubakar Umar, described the occasion as one of the happiest moments of their lives and prayed for God’s continued blessings on Governor Uba Sani, Kaduna State and Nigeria.
