Enzo Maresca Named Manchester City Manager

Manchester City have appointed Enzo Maresca as their new manager, with the Italian set to succeed Pep Guardiola next season after signing a three-year contract.

The appointment reunites Enzo Maresca with a club he knows well. He previously managed Manchester City’s youth team and also served on Guardiola’s senior coaching staff during the club’s historic 2022–23 treble-winning season. Speaking after his appointment, Maresca expressed his excitement about returning to the Etihad.

“Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me,” Maresca said in a statement.

“The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability. I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.”

The 46-year-old began his managerial career with Parma in 2021, where he won four of his 14 matches. He later took charge of Leicester City and guided the club to the Championship title, securing promotion back to the Premier League.

His achievements earned him a move to Chelsea, where he led the club to a fourth-place league finish and won both the Conference League and the Club World Cup. However, his relationship with the club’s owners later deteriorated, leading to his departure during his second season.

Enzo Maresca now faces the challenge of following Guardiola, whose ten-year reign brought Manchester City six Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy. Chelsea confirmed that both clubs reached a confidential settlement, including compensation, while a separate agreement was also reached with Maresca.
