Sunday Dare Dismisses Peter Obi as Threat to Tinubu

Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, has said Peter Obi no longer poses a significant political challenge to the President.

Speaking on the Mic On Podcast, Dare argued that the Tinubu administration has changed the political landscape since the 2023 general election through its policies and reforms. He maintained that the government’s performance has strengthened its position and reduced the political influence of the former Labour Party presidential candidate.

“Maybe before Peter Obi was a threat. Right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance,” Dare said.

He added that the administration has introduced measures to address Nigeria’s challenges and believes its achievements provide a strong record for voters to assess. Discussing Peter Obi, Dare described him as “a n¥isance” rather than a political nightmare and criticised his public appearances.

“Peter Obi is not a nightmare. Maybe you’ll replace nightmare with a n¥isance,” Dare said, adding that some of Obi’s reactions and interviews are “very pedantic.”

“They ask him a question and he goes in a roundabout direction that does not make sense,” he stated.

When reminded that Peter Obi won Lagos State during the 2023 presidential election, Dare argued that political circumstances have changed since then.

“That was 2023. We’re talking about 2026,” he said.

Asked whether Obi could repeat that result in a future election, Dare responded, “No. It won’t happen again.”

He concluded by saying the Tinubu administration remains focused on delivering its Renewed Hope agenda rather than concentrating on political rivals.
