TCN Restores Power After Lagos Flooding Disruption

TCN restored electricity supply after repairing the flooded transformer that caused widespread power outages in parts of Lagos State.

Electricity supply has been restored to parts of Lagos State after severe flooding forced a major transmission transformer out of service.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the restoration in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah. According to the company, its maintenance team successfully repaired and returned the 60-megavolt-ampere (MVA) TR1 transformer at the Oworonshoki Transmission Substation to service after floodwaters disrupted its operations.

The successful repair means the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) can resume distributing electricity supply to customers in the affected communities.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) hereby informs the public that the TR1 60MVA transformer at the Oworonshoki Transmission Substation, which was out of service due to heavy flooding at the station, has been successfully restored by TCN’s maintenance crew at exactly 07:53 hrs on 30th June 2026,” the statement read.

The outage began a day earlier when persistent rainfall caused serious flooding at the Oworonshoki Transmission Substation, forcing the transformer to shut down and leaving several parts of Lagos State without power.

Before the repairs were completed, TCN declared a force majeure on the affected transmission facilities because the flooding prevented normal operations and disrupted electricity delivery across areas connected to the network.

The restoration has now returned electricity supply to customers affected by the incident, bringing relief to homes and businesses that experienced power interruptions following the flooding. The successful repair also marks the resumption of normal operations at the substation after emergency maintenance work by TCN engineers.
