Abubakar Bagudu Says Reforms Boost Nigeria’s Investment Appeal
Bagudu says Tinubu economic reforms have boosted investor confidence and strengthened Nigeria’s appeal for sustainable long-term investment.
President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms have strengthened investor confidence and made Nigeria more attractive for long-term investment, according to Abubakar Bagudu.
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, has said Tinubu economic reforms have positioned Nigeria as Africa’s most attractive investment destination by improving macroeconomic stability and increasing investor confidence. He made the remarks during the Third Hamburg Sustainability Conference in Hamburg, Germany, according to a statement from the ministry.
Bagudu said the government’s ongoing reforms are creating a stronger environment for sustainable investment across major sectors, including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, digital innovation and climate-resilient development. He noted that the reforms are designed to strengthen fiscal sustainability, restore investor confidence and encourage greater private sector participation.
The minister also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding international partnerships that support economic growth and sustainable development.
“Nigeria is determined to leverage international partnerships to mobilise sustainable investment, strengthen economic resilience and accelerate the country’s transition towards a competitive, inclusive and climate-responsive economy,” the statement said.
The Third Hamburg Sustainability Conference, held on 29 and 30 June, brought together government leaders, development institutions, private sector executives and policy experts to discuss sustainable development, climate action, innovative financing and the Sustainable Development Goals.
On the sidelines of the event, Abubakar Bagudu met with Claudia Voss, Chief Executive Officer of the German-African Business Association, who introduced him to senior executives of ODDO BHF, a European financial institution. Discussions focused on opportunities in sustainable forestry, carbon credit financing, green investments and environmental restoration.
The ministry said representatives of ODDO BHF welcomed the government’s recent policy reforms, noting that they had improved Nigeria’s investment climate and increased international investor confidence.
Bagudu also held talks with the H2Global Foundation on developing Nigeria’s hydrogen sector. The meeting ended with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ministry and the foundation to establish a framework for cooperation in building Nigeria’s hydrogen economy and expanding opportunities in renewable energy and green industrialisation.
