NCC Reaffirms Partnership to Strengthen Telecom Sector
NCC has reaffirmed its commitment to partnerships that strengthen Nigeria’s telecommunications sector through reforms, awareness and increased investor confidence.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure Nigeria’s telecommunications sector remains resilient, competitive and sustainable.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr Aminu Maida said the NCC will continue collaborating with professional bodies to promote public awareness, responsible communication and stronger stakeholder engagement across the telecommunications sector.
Maida congratulated the NIPR on securing the right to host the 2026 World Public Relations Forum in Nigeria. He said the achievement demonstrates the value of strategic communication, perseverance and presenting a strong national narrative to the international community.
He also highlighted the upcoming African Telecoms Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries, scheduled to take place in Nigeria in July 2026, urging the institute to use the event to further enhance the country’s global image.
At the national level, Dr Aminu Maida said the NCC is implementing several initiatives to improve accountability and strengthen the telecommunications sector. These include public awareness campaigns on protecting Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), promoting efficient data usage, simplifying mobile network tariffs, publishing coverage maps and creating a competitive environment for industry growth.
According to Maida, recent reforms have begun restoring investor confidence, leading to increased investment in the sector.
“Through the efforts that we have been making to stabilize the sector; we have been able to restore investor confidence. The level of investment we are seeing now is not about keeping the lights on, it is about growing the industry and this is something we have not seen for years before my time; and it is a sign of investors saying we have confidence in the sector, in the reforms of the government, in the regulator and we believe there is opportunity in this market,” he noted.
In his remarks, NIPR President Dr Ike Neliaku praised the NCC’s commitment to collaboration and recognised the Commission’s contribution to Nigeria’s digital economy. He also pledged the institute’s support for initiatives that encourage responsible communication, effective reputation management and greater public awareness of the Commission’s regulatory programmes.
