Army Boosts Technology Investment Against Security Threats
Nigerian Army strengthens technology and intelligence investment to improve responses against terrorism, banditry and security challenges.
The Nigerian Army is increasing its focus on technology, intelligence and modern military equipment to respond more effectively to the country’s changing security challenges.
Speaking at the grand finale of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) and the African Land Forces Forum in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Chief of Army Staff Olufemi Oluyede said modern security threats require a professionally trained force with advanced capabilities.
The Army Chief explained that the Nigerian Army has continued to update its strategies by improving operational capacity and strengthening partnerships with other security agencies. He said ongoing military operations, better intelligence gathering and the use of modern defence equipment have improved efforts against insurgency, terrorism, banditry and other threats.
According to Olufemi Oluyede, intelligence and military technology are now central to the Army’s operations because they allow troops to detect threats more accurately, respond faster and carry out missions with greater precision. He added that the Army would continue acquiring modern combat equipment and other resources to improve effectiveness and protect personnel.
The Chief of Army Staff also highlighted the importance of training officers and soldiers to operate advanced military systems. He said newly acquired equipment would be integrated into counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism and other internal security operations nationwide.
Oluyede stressed that the increasing complexity of terrorism and organised crime requires intelligence-led operations, strong cooperation among security agencies and the use of emerging technologies. He said the Nigerian Army would continue working with the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force and other security bodies to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations.
He noted that innovation, quick decision-making and intelligence have become essential in modern warfare. However, he added that technology must work alongside professionalism, discipline and ethical conduct.
The Army Chief also appealed for public cooperation, urging Nigerians to provide reliable information to security agencies to support efforts against insecurity.
