Belgium Reach World Cup Quarterfinals After USA Win
Belgium overcome USA with a 4-1 win as De Ketelaere shines, sending the Red Devils into their first quarterfinal since 2018.
Belgium defeated USA 4-1 to secure a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinals after a strong attacking display in Seattle.
The Belgium World Cup victory saw the Red Devils return to the tournament’s last eight for the first time since 2018. Belgium produced a confident performance against the USA national team in their Round of 16 match at the Seattle Stadium on Monday.
Charles De Ketelaere played a key role in the result, scoring twice in the opening half before creating a goal for substitute Hans Vanaken after the break. Romelu Lukaku completed the scoring with a fourth goal during second-half stoppage time to seal Belgium’s progress in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The USA briefly levelled the match when Malik Tillman scored from a free-kick in the 31st minute. However, Belgium responded quickly, with De Ketelaere restoring their advantage just two minutes later.
The Belgium World Cup victory now sets up a quarterfinal meeting with European champions Spain, scheduled for Friday. The match will be another major test for Belgium as they continue their pursuit of international success.
Before kick-off, much of the focus surrounded Folarin Balogun’s place in the USA starting lineup. The striker had received a one-match suspension for a red card, but FIFA reviewed the decision after a request from US President Donald Trump and allowed him to play.
Belgium also surprised many with their team selection, leaving stars Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku on the bench. Coach Rudi Garcia’s decision proved successful as De Ketelaere delivered a standout performance.
Can Belgium’s new attacking approach help them overcome Spain in the quarterfinal?
