Ali Modu Sheriff Claims Peter Obi May Change Parties Again

Former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff has shared his views on Peter Obi’s political future and Nigeria’s 2027 election plans.

Former Borno State Governor and ex-national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed that Peter Obi may continue moving between political parties because of his presidential ambition.

Naija News reports that Sheriff made the comments during an interview on Channels Television, where he discussed Nigeria politics and preparations for the 2027 general election.

The former governor said Peter Obi’s political moves from one platform to another are linked to his aim of securing a presidential ticket whenever elections draw closer. He added that he had previously shared this opinion during an earlier appearance on the same programme.

Sheriff believes Obi could keep changing parties if he fails to achieve his goals within a particular political platform. According to him, anyone hoping to lead Nigeria must focus on national unity rather than regional interests.

He said: “People like [Obi] will never stay in one political party because he’s pursuing an agenda. If he cannot be a presidential candidate, he will move out. I told you this before.

“If you really wanted to succeed in Nigeria today, you don’t pursue an agenda of one section of a country.

“If I, as a Bornu indigene, will come out here and say that no, I only believe in Borno state, not in Nigeria, then I’m not fit to be a Nigerian, because this country our leaders have fought and we stood by them.”

The comments have renewed discussions about political leadership, party loyalty, and the future of Nigerian elections.
