APC Governors Condemn Attacks on Nigerians in South Africa
APC governors condemn attacks on Nigerians abroad while urging public support for ongoing economic reforms and improved national security.
Eighteen first-term governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have condemned the recent attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, while reaffirming their support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda.
The APC governors meeting concluded with a communiqué issued after the gathering in Kebbi State, where the governors expressed concern over the safety of Nigerians living abroad and called for swift action to address all forms of violence against citizens.
Reading the communiqué, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris said the governors recognised the economic difficulties many Nigerians are experiencing as a result of the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms. However, they urged citizens to remain patient and continue supporting the administration’s policies.
“We are aware that every Nigerian is feeling the heat of economic reforms being undertaken by the Tinubu-led government, but we won’t abandon the reforms before they come to fruition. We appeal to Nigerians to support the reforms,” the governors stated.
The APC governors meeting also addressed the country’s security challenges. The governors condemned attacks and the abduction of schoolchildren, stressing that every Nigerian deserves adequate protection. They called for decisive measures to end violence and improve public safety across the country.
Speaking after the meeting, Idris said first-term governors seeking re-election would present their records to voters by highlighting achievements in key sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, security and education.
“As first-term governors, we need the support of people at all levels as we go to them to seek their cooperation and support. We will show them what we did in agriculture, health, security and education,” he said.
The APC governors meeting ended with a renewed pledge of support for the Tinubu administration, as the governors reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Federal Government while encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful despite current economic challenges.
