Troops Foil Terrorist Attacks in North-West Operations

Operation Fansan Yamma troops have stopped coordinated terrorist attacks in Zamfara and Katsina, killing a notorious commander and recovering weapons.

Troops from the Joint Task Force North West carried out separate operations on Monday, 7 July, after receiving intelligence about planned attacks. In Zamfara State, soldiers from Sector 2, supported by local security volunteers, moved quickly to stop terrorists targeting communities in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. During a fierce exchange of gunfire, the troops forced the attackers to retreat with several casualties. Operation Fansan Yamma continues to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity across the region.

Lt Col Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer, said, “Working alongside local security volunteers, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle and repelled the assault, forcing the attackers to retreat with several casualties.”

Troops also responded to an attack on farmers near Dogon Kade, where they killed notorious terrorist commander Alhaji Tukur, the younger brother of terrorist kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye. Danja added, “Troops responding to an attack on farmers around Dogon Kade neutralised notorious terrorist commander Alhaji Tukur, younger brother of terrorist kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye. Several other terrorists sustained gunshot wounds and fled the area.”

At Sabon Gari in Kaura Namoda LGA, advancing troops forced terrorists to abandon their mission. Soldiers later recovered a motorcycle used by the fleeing suspects.

In Katsina State, Operation Fansan Yamma troops overwhelmed terrorists along the Danmusa–Yantumaki route. The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle.

The Nigerian Air Force also intercepted about 300 terrorists travelling on motorcycles from the Sunke-Kumbo axis towards the Bayazaki riverine area on their way to Gummi. According to Danja, “Three air platforms were deployed along the terrorists’ axis of advance. On sighting the air assets, the terrorists attempted to flee for cover under trees but were successfully engaged and neutralised with precision airstrikes, thwarting their nefarious plan.”

He praised the Nigerian Air Force for its swift action, saying it had further weakened terrorist operations. Danja also reaffirmed that Operation Fansan Yamma would continue sustained offensives to protect communities, restore security, and deny criminal groups freedom of movement across the North-West.
