Senate Confirms Zainab Marwa for NDDC Board
Senate approves Dr Zainab Marwa’s appointment to the NDDC governing board after a successful committee screening and recommendation.
The Senate has confirmed Dr Zainab Marwa’s NDDC appointment as a member of the commission’s governing board representing the North-East.
The Senate has approved the Dr Zainab Marwa NDDC appointment as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone. The confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on NDDC during Wednesday’s plenary.
The report, originally sponsored by the committee chairman and senator representing Cross River South, Asuquo Ekpenyong, was presented by Patrick Ndubueze, the senator representing Imo North. Ndubueze explained that President Bola Tinubu had forwarded Dr Zainab Marwa’s NDDC appointment to the Senate, which then referred the nomination to the committee for consideration.
According to Ndubueze, the committee carried out an open screening to assess the nominee’s qualifications, experience, integrity and readiness for the role. He said, “Having carefully screened the nominee and considered all relevant documents submitted, the committee is satisfied that Dr. Zainab Marwa possesses the requisite qualifications, experience, integrity, and competence required for the appointment.
“Accordingly, the committee recommends that the Senate do confirm the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member representing the North-East in the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.”
The Senate later resolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider the report before adopting its recommendations. Senate President Godswill Akpabio then conducted a voice vote, after which the nomination received formal approval.
Akpabio praised the committee for completing its work promptly and thanked senators for their contributions. He also wished Dr Zainab Marwa success in her new position, expressing hope that her service on the NDDC board would support the continued development and progress of the Niger Delta region.
