Security operatives have arrested suspected kidnap kingpin Abubakar Usman after a fierce gun battle in a forest in Delta State, days after the abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu. According to security advocate Harrison Gwamnishu, the victim was abducted on July 2, 2026, along Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku, with the kidnappers allegedly demanding a ₦100 million ransom.
Gwamnishu said the incident was reported to the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor. Acting on the information, operatives used the Hydra Tech Surveillance System to launch a coordinated rescue mission, which led to the successful recovery of Mrs. Chiedu alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.
Following the rescue, security personnel immediately tracked the fleeing suspects. The search continued overnight until about 6:45 a.m., when surveillance technology reportedly located the group at a hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
A gun battle followed as officers confronted the suspects. Security operatives arrested Abubakar Usman, who investigators described as one of the area’s most wanted suspected kidnappers. Other members of the group reportedly escaped deeper into the forest with their firearms.
Investigators believe Usman and his gang were responsible for several kidnapping incidents across Igbodo, Umunede and nearby communities, where they allegedly collected millions of naira in ransom payments from victims’ families.
Gwamnishu praised Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Commissioner of Police, officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and DSP Paul Xdot for their roles in the operation, describing their efforts as crucial to rescuing the victim and arresting the suspected kingpin.
