Retiring Director Urges Greater Road Infrastructure Development
Retiring director Clement Ogbuagu urged greater road infrastructure investment, timely project funding and continued digital reforms to boost Nigeria’s economic growth.
Road Infrastructure Development remains essential for economic growth, a retiring senior official has said while urging the Federal Government to increase funding for the sector.
Retiring Director of Highways Construction and Rehabilitation at the Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Clement Ogbuagu, made the appeal during a valedictory ceremony held in his honour at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday. He thanked God for a successful career and expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for giving him the opportunity to serve the nation.
Ogbuagu said working at the federal level allowed him to collaborate with people from different parts of the country, broadening his experience and promoting national unity. He also praised the Minister of Works for introducing innovative methods and modern technology into road infrastructure investment, noting that the use of concrete pavements has improved the quality and lifespan of roads.
He stressed that the government should ensure the prompt release of funds for road projects to prevent unnecessary delays. According to him, road infrastructure investment plays a vital role in driving economic development and supporting national progress.
The retiring director also encouraged civil servants to remain committed to the ethics and rules of the public service throughout their careers. He advised them to work with diligence, professionalism and accountability so they could retire with honour.
Ogbuagu further applauded the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP), describing it as an important step towards digital transformation in the public sector. He called for sustained funding and effective implementation of the programme, adding that digital systems would improve efficiency and gradually reduce dependence on paper-based processes.
Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary Rafiu Adeladan and Minister of State for Works Mohammed Goronyo commended Ogbuagu for his dedication, professionalism and lasting contributions to the ministry. They praised his commitment to duty and urged public servants to remain disciplined and focused in serving the country.
