Manchester United Reveals New Stadium Site

Manchester United stadium plans have taken another major step forward as the club confirmed the exact location of its proposed 100,000-seat arena.

Manchester United has announced fresh details about its proposed Manchester United stadium, revealing that the new venue will be built around 350 metres northwest of the current Old Trafford ground. The announcement was made on Thursday as the club continues work on its long-term redevelopment project.

The proposed stadium forms part of a wider regeneration district that the club says will deliver significant economic and social benefits. According to Manchester United, the project could create around 48,000 local jobs, provide 15,000 new homes and contribute an estimated £7.3 billion annually to the UK economy.

Chief Executive of the club’s stadium development project, Collette Roche, said the redevelopment offers a rare opportunity to create lasting benefits for supporters, local communities and the wider region. She added, “We are committed to building a world-class stadium with our supporters, not simply for them.”

Part-owner Jim Ratcliffe has made the construction of the new Manchester United stadium one of his key objectives, describing it as an ambition to build the “world’s greatest” football venue. When the plans were first unveiled last year, the estimated construction cost stood at £2 billion, with completion targeted for the 2030–31 season.

Early concept designs featured a striking structure with three large spires, although the final architectural design has yet to be confirmed.

The new stadium would overtake Wembley Stadium, which currently holds 90,000 spectators, as the largest stadium in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Old Trafford, home to Manchester United since 1910, remains the country’s biggest dedicated football stadium with a capacity of just over 74,000, despite its ageing facilities compared with newer venues such as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
