Cholera Outbreak Hits ISWAP Camps in Borno

A cholera outbreak has reportedly killed nine ISWAP fighters in the Timbuktu Triangle of Borno State, according to intelligence sources.

Reports from intelligence sources indicate that the disease has spread across several ISWAP camps within the Timbuktu Triangle, an area known as a stronghold for the group. Security analyst Zagazola Makama, citing security sources in a post on X, said the outbreak has exposed poor sanitation and limited access to medical care inside the camps.

The sources also alleged that two additional ISWAP fighters who contracted cholera were executed by fellow members after efforts to treat them in Kimba village failed. According to the same sources, the incident reflects the worsening health conditions inside the camps as continued military operations have disrupted the group’s supply network, including access to medicines and healthcare.

“The development pointed to the worsening health conditions within the t+rrorist hideouts, where sustained military pressure has disrupted logistics, including access to medicines and treatment facilities,” the sources said.

The intelligence sources further stated that military commanders have been encouraged to strengthen efforts to intercept medical supplies and pharmaceutical products believed to be destined for ISWAP camps. They said the move aims to reduce the group’s ability to provide treatment and maintain its operational capacity.
