Troops Arrest Chadian Drug Courier Linked To Terror Supply Route

Security forces have intercepted suspected illicit supplies allegedly linked to terrorist networks operating around the Lake Chad Islands.
Troops from Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected foreign drug courier and recovered a large quantity of illicit drugs, alcoholic drinks and other prohibited substances allegedly being moved to terrorists hiding in the Lake Chad Islands.
The operation took place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, along the Maiduguri–Monguno road as troops conducted a search operation. They arrested Mrs. Rachael Samuel, a 48-year-old Chadian national from Kelo, Chari-Baguirmi Province, while she was travelling towards Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a statement, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said early findings from the investigation showed that the recovered items were likely intended for areas within the Lake Chad Islands, which have been associated with terrorist activities.
The seized items include seven compressed bundles of suspected cannabis sativa weighing about 30kg, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, popularly known as “S¥ck and D+e,” 48 bottles of dry gin, 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages, a mobile phone, two ATM cards, personal belongings and cash. The military valued the recovered items at millions of naira.
Operation HADIN KAI stated that the arrest represents another setback for terrorist logistics networks. The operation noted that intelligence reports have repeatedly shown that terrorists use illicit drugs and intoxicants to increase confidence among fighters, reduce fear and support vi%lent activities.
The suspect remains in military custody, while officials will transfer the recovered exhibits to the relevant law enforcement agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities praised the troops’ vigilance and encouraged citizens to share reliable information to support efforts to improve North-East security.
