FCT Minister Intervenes in Power Supply Disruption in Maitama

Wike intervenes after a land dispute damages the Maitama substation, disrupting electricity supply across the district and nearby areas.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has intervened in the land grabbing issues leading to the current power supply disruptions in Maitama and adjoining areas.
The AEDC’s C2 Maitama Substation supplying power to the Maitama district and adjoining areas was invaded by Land grabbers led by an Assistant Director of FCDA Chinedu Okoro who unlawfully encroached the facility.
The minister who had been fully briefed on the situation, has personally intervened to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the current power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas.
The C2 Maitama Substation is a critical electricity distribution installation serving homes, businesses, diplomatic missions and government institutions. During the encroachment, vital electricity cables and other network infrastructure were damaged, making it unsafe and technically impossible to continue power supply from the facility.
AEDC which petitioned the relevant authorities over the activities of the individuals, insisted the substation and its land duly belongs to AEDC. The Company expects a thorough investigation and appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The management strongly condemn any encroachment on critical national infrastructure, as such actions deprive communities of essential electricity supply, disrupt economic activities and compromise public interest.
It however regrets the inconvenience caused and assures customers that restoration efforts will commence as soon as the substation is secured and the damaged infrastructure is rebuilt.
