AFAN Backs Northern Security Trust Fund Initiative

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has welcomed the creation of the Northern Security Trust Fund, describing it as a major step towards improving security and supporting agricultural activities across Northern Nigeria.

In a statement, AFAN National President Muhammad Magaji Gettado praised the decision of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) to contribute N1 billion every month to the fund. He said the commitment reflects the governors’ determination to address the region’s growing security challenges and restore stability in communities affected by violence.

Muhammad Magaji Gettado also commended the appointment of the fund’s management board, noting that its members have strong reputations and proven records of service. According to him, their leadership is expected to promote transparency and accountability in the management of the resources dedicated to the Northern Security Trust Fund.

The association stressed that improved security is essential for reviving farming activities in areas affected by banditry, kidnappings and other criminal attacks that have disrupted agricultural production. AFAN believes the Northern Security Trust Fund will help create a safer environment, allowing farmers to return to their fields, increase food production, stabilise food prices and strengthen Nigeria’s food security.

Gettado also encouraged farmers, cooperative societies and AFAN members across the northern states to support the initiative by working closely with security agencies and providing credible information that could help tackle insecurity.

The association reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with governments and other stakeholders in promoting peace and stability. It said stronger partnerships are vital to improving agricultural productivity and achieving long-term food self-sufficiency across Nigeria.
