UNIZIK Denies Link to Viral Lecturer Video Claims

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) management has denied claims connecting the institution to a viral video alleging that a lecturer was involved in inappropriate conduct with a student.

The university said the reports circulating online were false and misleading after reviewing the video and investigating the claims. The UNIZIK viral video claim emerged on Wednesday, showing a man described online as a lecturer allegedly being confronted by students inside an office.

In the footage, some individuals were seen entering the office while the man reportedly escaped through a window. The accompanying narration claimed the incident happened at UNIZIK and identified the person involved as a staff member of the university.

However, UNIZIK management said its verification process showed that neither the individual in the video nor the student involved was connected to the institution. The university also stated that the incident did not take place on its campus.

In a statement issued by Director of Information and Public Relations Aloysius Attah, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to professional standards and said it maintains zero tolerance for any form of student exploitation.

The university warned that the spread of unverified information through social media and citizen journalism can damage reputations. It encouraged journalists, online platforms, and members of the public to confirm facts with relevant authorities before sharing reports.

UNIZIK said digital platforms have made information sharing easier but also highlighted the importance of fact-checking misinformation before publication.

The institution urged those who shared the claims to withdraw and correct the reports, while assuring the public of its continued openness to communication and accountability.
