Donald Trump will attend the World Cup 2026 final as Argentina and Spain compete in New York.
U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Argentina and Spain in the New York area on Sunday.
The World Cup final will take place at the New York/New Jersey stadium, with Trump set to watch one of football’s biggest events. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the president’s attendance during a press conference on Thursday.
“We look forward to the final match on Sunday, and I know the president looks forward to attending,” Leavitt told reporters at a press conference.
She said Trump’s appearance would mark the conclusion of what she described as a highly successful tournament. “His attendance will cap what has been the most watched, most secure, and most successful World Cup in American history.”
The FIFA World Cup 2026 final has attracted global attention, with Argentina and Spain preparing to compete for the title. Leavitt said she did not know whether Trump supported a particular team but encouraged reporters to ask him directly.
“I’m sure he’ll have a fun answer for you,” she said.
The president will also attend a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York City on Friday before the match.
Trump previously attended the FIFA Club World Cup final between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, where he presented the trophy to the Premier League club.
The WC Finals appearance continues the president’s involvement in major football events and highlights the significance of the tournament being hosted in the United States.
